ENGLAND’S NIGHTINGALE WIN IET THIRD PLACE TROPHY AT ARAMCO F1 IN SCHOOLS WORLD FINALS 2023A team of four students from Robert May’s School in England won the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) Third Place Trophy at the 2023 Aramco F1 in Schools World Finals in Singapore this week, as the 18th edition of the global STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) competition came to an end. David Lakin, Head of Education, Safeguarding & Education Policy at IET, presented Nightingale with the award at the ceremony on Wednesday evening at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore. The panel of judges was chaired by former Jordan and Jaguar F1 Technical Director Gary Anderson, who credited the team for their passion and skill. The judges said: “To finish on the podium in this competition is an incredible achievement. We were very impressed by Nightingale’s performance, especially in the Autodesk Pressure Challenge, and they should be proud of what they have accomplished here.”
Nightingale also took victory in the Autodesk Pressure Challenge, in which teams must create a 3D model and renders of a futuristic F1 car design. Team Manager Amber Mylrea from Nightingale said: “Just getting on the podium is insane. We would never have imagined it. There are so many amazing teams, so we can’t believe we got this far. There’s so much that goes into this competition. It’s not just about having the fastest car, although that did of course help. F1 in Schools has been lifechanging.” A record 370+ students from 68 teams and 26 countries competed at the World Finals. Recoil Racing from Germany were crowned the World Champions, while Propulsion from Australia took second place. Andrew Denford, Founder and Chairman of F1 in Schools, said: “We have seen yet more incredible performances from our teams this year, which has been the most competition edition of the World Finals to date. For Nightingale to finish third amongst these fierce entries is truly something to be proud of.”
