Awards and Schemes
As well as the certificate that each F1 Team Schools competitor receives it is also possible to gain other awards, with the work done by students for the Challenge. Below are a few of the schemes that can be accessed through the F1 in Schools Challenge. If you want any more details on the schemes mentioned then please cantact us via e-mail at contactus@f1inschools.co.uk.
Duke of Edinburgh Awards
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is split into five sections: Service, Skills, Physical Recreation, Expedition and Residential Project. The work done for the Challenge can be used as part of the ‘skills’ section of the Award. For those who enter this scheme think creatively and make sure you keep a record of all your work using an activities log.
BA CREST Awards
The British Science Association’s CREST Awards is the UK’s largest national award scheme for project work in the STEM subjects. CREST is the only STEM scheme endorsed by UCAS for inclusion in students’ personal statements. It launched 25 years ago and is still growing: last year, over 26,000 students achieved a CREST Award.
There may be potential for the F1 in Schools portfolio work to be accredited with CREST. For more information, visit www.britishscienceassociation.org/crest.
Year In Industry
The Year in Industry or YINI as at is also known, is a scheme for ‘gap year’ students who want to spend a year in industry before or during University. So after F1 in Schools, students can take a year out in engineering before going to University.
