The aspiring F1 engineers, created a miniature Formula One car, which they raced along a 20 metre track against competitors from across the region. A time of 1.195 seconds secured the team victory in the race to be fastest R-type team of the day. Team Velocity for the F1 in Schools Technology Challenge consisted of Scott Bugler, Charles Douch, David House, and Andrew Millward.

Several schools from Somerset had racing success, the Memphis team from St Dustan’s School in Glastonbury won the 11-14 age category at the event and have earned their place to race in the UK National Finals. Their team for the F1 in Schools Technology Challenge consisted of Lucy Corfield, Jessica Betts, Jason Biddlecombe, Bethany-May Howard, Thomas O'grady and Oisin O'leary Crawford.

The Ace Racer team from Devonport High School in Plymouth won the award for Best Engineered Car, sponsored by Jaguar, after impressing the judges with the high attention to detail that went into the engineering their car. The Ace Racer team for the F1 in Schools Technology Challenge consisted of Matthew George, Ralph Arscott, Tom Flynn, Alex Hansford and Christopher Madar.
