ROOKIE TEAM BEATS THE EXPERIENCED TO WIN IN NORTH WEST REGIONAL FINAL
For the first time in F1 in Schools 10-year history a rookie team beat experienced teams to win the Formula 1 Class at the North West Regional Final held at Jaguar Land Rover this week. Stretford Aces from Stretford High School, Manchester blitzed the opposition taking the Best Team Identity Award and Best Rookie Award, on their way to securing first place.
Lytham St Annes’ LSA Technology and Performing Arts College also had a strong showing at the event, their Spitfire team taking three awards: first place in the Bloodhound Class, Fastest Bloodhound Car and the Perseverance in the face of adversity award. Sister team from the LSA College, Velocity Raptor, picked up the Best Engineered Car and Fastest Formula 1 Class car awards, as well as coming second in the Formula 1 Class overall. The efforts of these two teams resulted in places at the UK National Finals in March, joining the rookie Stretford Aces to represent the North West region.
