LSA Technology and Performing Arts College sweeps four awards in North West Regionals

Ribblesdale High School, Clitheroe will be making a return visit to the F1 in Schools National Finals with their team, F1 Scintilla, winning the Formula 1 class at the North West regional final of the 2011 F1 in Schools Formula One Technology Challenge held recently at Jaguar Land Rover in Halewood. The team also won the Best Sponsorship and Marketing Award.
LSA Technology and Performing Arts College celebrated winning four awards The college entered three teams into this year’s challenge, with ‘Bullfighters’ taking victory in the Bloodhound class which won the team a place at the UK National Finals of F1 in Schools. The team also took the Fastest Bloodhound car award after racing down the special F1 in Schools track in the quickest time. ‘Bio Hazard’, a second team from the college won the Best Engineered Car award and Speedy Gonzales, the third team representing LSA Technology and Performing Arts College, posted the quickest time on the test track in the Formula 1 class to win the Fastest F1 car award.
First time F1 in Schools entrants, Chesterfield High School, Liverpool, were pleased to win a place at the National Finals. ‘Velox Racing’ raced to victory in the Rookie class.
In the Primary Class Velocity Vipers from Norman Street Primary School, Carlisle pipped the other entry level teams to take first place. The team also won the Perseverance in adversity award.
Little Lever School, Bolton collected two awards, with their Bullet Storm team taking Best Team Identity and Nitehawks winning the Innovative Thinking award.
The UK National Finals will be held at the Big Bang Science Fair, Excel, London from 11th – 12th March. Victory at this event will earn the winning team a place in the 2011 F1 in School World Finals, a prestigious event in its own right, which brings with it the chance to compete for City University London engineering scholarships and the unique Bernie Ecclestone F1 in Schools World Champions trophy.
The North West regional finals took place with the assistance of a host of sponsors and supporters. Amongst these are the IET, Tata, Denford, Jaguar, City University, London, SEMTA and KHP Consulting.
