Five school teams moved a step closer to winning a place at the prestigious F1 in Schools World Finals after success at the Yorkshire, Humberside and North West England F1 in Schools Regional Final 2015 held last week at Sheffield Hallam University.
Velocita, a team from Prince Henrys Grammar School, Otley, won the F1 Class category and two other accolades: Fastest F1 Class car Award and Best Engineered F1 Class Car Award. Velocita said of competing in F1 in Schools, “Achieving this has been great, it’s been quite a challenge, but working as a team has been fantastic. Designing the car was fun and manufacturing was quite difficult. We’ll be doing a lot more work on the car before the National Finals, especially with the planning and organising.”
Delta Force, Heckmondwike Grammar School, Heckmondwike, newcomers to the F1 in Schools competition were awarded first place in the F1 Rookie Class, and won Fastest F1 Rookie Class, Team Identity Award and Best Engineered Rookie Class Award. Raging Bulls from Ridgewood Academy, Doncaster won first place in the Bloodhound Class and also took the Fastest Bloodhound Car Award and Best Engineered Bloodhound Class car Award. These two teams will join the F1 Class winners at the National Finals.
Delta Force were delighted to win and said of the competition, “We’re very excited to have won today and we’re really looking forward to the Nationals. We didn’t think we’d win, so it’s been quite a surprise and shocked. It will be great to have a chance to race our car at the Finals, competing at the next level and seeing the other teams’ cars.”
Raging Bulls added “We’re really happy to have won our Class. It’s been an amazing opportunity and we’re really proud of our work. We’re really excited to be competing at the National Finals and we’re aiming to go all the way to the World Finals.”
