Five school teams won through to the National Finals from the F1 in Schools Regional Final held last week at Swansea Waterfront Museum.

 

BCS Racing from Barry Comprehensive School took the honours in the F1 Class of the competition and a sister team from the school, BCS Bloodhound won the Bloodhound Class.  Unknown from Blackwood Comprehensive School were runners up in the F1 Class and close behind in third it was Vertigo from St. Johns College, Cardiff.  These four teams all win through to the F1 in Schools National Finals for their success. Nebula from Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera, Swansea were given a wildcard place to join these teams from South Wales in Birmingham for the National Finals event.

 

BSC Racing were delighted to win and said of the competition, “I’m feeling amazed, for the second year in a row we’ve got through to the Nationals, to see the other competitors and see how we perform against them. We think our high standard of engineering and our team performance put us ahead of the rest.”

 

Unknown said of the Regional Finals, “We’re feeling great after winning through to the Nationals. We’ve got quite a few ideas for improvements to our car which are under wraps at the moment. We think our stand and the speed of the car put us ahead of the other teams. The competition was very strong this year, with all the teams showing progression of the car and designs, it was very competitive.”

 

Vertigo said of competing in F1 in Schools, “We’re chuffed, we didn’t really expect to do so well. We think our pit stand and our verbal presentation were our strongest elements. We want to get through to the World Finals, so this is the next stop on the road.”

 

BCS Bloodhounds added, “We’re feeling amazing after winning. Our presentation was our strongest part. We’re very proud to be going to Birmingham, especially as it’s the first time we’ve done this. We just need to make some improvements to the
