Emmanuel College, Gateshead, were top of the class at the North East England F1 in SchoolsRegional Final.

The team, Unity, won the Best Engineered Car Award and the Fastest Car Award, with the team’s car racing on the F1 in Schools 20 metre test track in a time of 1.209 seconds as well as the overall regional title at the event held at Nissan in Sunderland,

Unity, comprises team members Samuel Chapman, Morgan Lisk, Lucy Brooks, Aaron Morris and Michael Farrell. Aaron, Graphic Designer for the team said of winning, “During the awards ceremony we were quite disappointed, to say the least, as we hadn’t been announced as third or second placed winners and thought that we weren’t on the podium, so we were quite surprised to be the overall winners. I think it was the time we put into the competition and working together that helped us win. We’ll look at making some improvements for the National Finals, including working on reducing the friction on the wheels, a LERS device, our pit display and our portfolio.”
