Williams Racing Deputy Team Principal, Claire Williams will join Andrew Denford, Founder and Chairman, Formula 1 in Schools STEM Challenge, on the main stage at BETT, the world’s leading education technology event, next week. A Q and A Session with these two eminent personalities to be hosted by Sky Sports F1 lead commentator, David Croft, will provide visitors with a unique insight into the world of Formula 1 and how its popularity encourages students into STEM-based careers.

The BETT Arena will be a fitting backdrop for this session, with Claire Williams, as one of only two female team bosses, outlining how her involvement as an ambassador in the FIA’s Women in Motorsport Commission aims to impact on recruitment of women into the sport and associated STEM careers.

Claire and Andrew will also discuss the value of the largest global multi-discipline STEM challenge, F1 in Schools, it’s role in the recruitment process for personnel in the Formula 1 industry and the benefits for students and teachers who become involved in the programme.

F1 in Schools has a close relationship with Williams Racing, with F1 in Schools World Finals students exclusively offered the opportunity to apply for the Randstad Williams Engineering Academy, a mentoring and e-learning programme for engineering students with the potential for recruitment into Williams, one of only 11 Formula 1 teams.

Andrew Denford says of the BETT Arena session, “I would encourage any teachers passionate about STEM to take a seat for this Q and A. I can guarantee that you will be inspired to introduce F1 in Schools into your educational establishment and will reap the rewards of giving students a challenge that ignites their enthusiasm for key curricular subjects through a fun, engaging programme that not only develops skills but brings life-changing opportunities to talented young people.”

“It will definitely be a lively session” adds Andrew. “David Croft has hosted our F1 in Schools World Finals events for a number of years and is passionate about the programme. His depth of understanding together with his professionalism and knowledge of the F1 industry will ensure that Claire and I have an insightful discussion about how F1 is involved within education and the opportunities it offers to young people.”
