Academy Racing from WMG Academy for Young Engineers in Coventry were laden down with silverware after winning four awards at the Central England F1 in SchoolsRegional Final. They took first place and won he Best Engineered F1 Class Car Award, the Innovative Thinking Award and the Fastest Car F1 Class Award, with a time of 1.128 seconds. The team’s innovative ink-injected water tunnel testing tool particularly impressed the judges.

Eddie Hodierne, Team Manager of Academy Racing said of winning, “ We’ve done brilliantly today and worked really well. We thought the competition would be as good as it was last year and it definitely was, so we didn’t expect to won. We’re going home with four trophies though, which is great. We’ll be working hard towards the National Finals and reviewing our design to see if we can get it to be even faster.”

Shirelands Collegiate Academy in Birmingham hosted the second of the ten F1 in Schools Regional Finals and the home team took the Rookie Class honours, with Slip Stream Racing racing their car in a time of 1.441 seconds.

Joining Academy Racing and Slip Stream Racing at Silverstone from the Central England region will be second placed team Torque Racing from Sprowston Sixth Form College, Sprowston, Norwich and third placed team, Newton Racing from  Rawlins Academy, Quorn, Leicestershire.
